Understanding
Abundance.
Abundance,
What is it?
Merriam-Webster
dictionary has this definition:
Main Entry: abun·dance
Function: noun
Date: 14th century
1 : an ample quantity
2 : affluence, wealth
3 : relative degree of plentifulness
Abundance
is not limited to material wealth, but,
material wealth is usually what
most people think of
when they are studying and pursuing abundance.
In
the pursuit of abundance, We must make intention clear; meaning
we must determine what it is, where it is, how it is - so we can pursue
it with efficiency and be likely to receive it when it presents
itself. If I said to you, "Please bring me the hammer.",
would you look for it in the refrigerator? Would you sit down and simply
will it into existence? No, of course not, you would look
for it among other tools, where they are stored. If you did not
know what a hammer was or what it looked like, or what it was used for,
it is doubtful that you would bring me what I need. Get your
intention clear, and define it, visualize it. Ask yourself
"where would it be?", "What does it look like?",
"What will it be used for?", "Who has it?",
"How did they get it?", "Can someone get it for
me?", "Do I need help to get it?"
"Intent" is discussed more in depth here.
You should write down ALL the things you would like in abundance.
Define what wealth and abundance means to you, in your vocabulary.
Don't define it simply as "more of" - but define how much
exactly.
Most notably, it is a
noun; meaning a person, place or thing. This says to me that you,
your home, your job and even your entire existence can all be termed as
abundant. Most of us think of the second definition (affluence, wealth)
when we complain about the lack of abundance in our life. But
abundance is more than affluence or wealth, it can also be defined as our
thoughts, emotions, attitude, outlook and behavior. Also, we can have an
abundance of health and well being. We can be abundant with our
time, attention, love, gratitude, generosity or affection in addition to
the many negative things we can abundantly possess and distribute.
The opposite of abundance is "Scarcity", meaning; in short
supply, or not plentiful. When we seek abundance,
we are usually seeking "an ample quantity of wealth" and are
usually speaking about money and financial pursuits, but it is more than
just that when combined with "Intent" and gratitude.
Abundance
is an affirmative, or positive word which denotes a positive state of
being; a receiver of 'plenty.' An abundant person also takes
joy in the abundance of another, and is not jealous or acting in a way
in which says "there isn't enough for all of us." Many
people find it easy to celebrate their own abundance, but really
struggle with celebrating someone else's bounty without quietly saying
to themselves "I wish it was me." The result of such a
poor attitude brings selfishness, want, and scarcity into focus, and we
are no longer celebrating. Instead we are claiming to the universe
there is some manner of injustice taking place, and that we are not all
entitled to the bounty the happens upon us. Thus, our focus changes from
abundance to scarcity, and the abundance that is ours to claim, eludes
our grasp.
Continued
abundance is dependent upon our continued gratitude; our appreciation of
the bounty bestowed upon us. Whether that bounty was the
product of diligent labor, persistent study and application of
successful processes, or just blind luck. Gratitude or the grace
upon which rests our attitudes towards our bounty should be expressed
honestly and frequently. Imagine yourself giving a gift to
someone, who was neither thankful nor gracious but instead acted
spiteful and impatient or less than satisfied with your gift. It
is doubtful you would be able to give them another gift, without
remembering their past conduct, and perhaps would give them a lesser
gift, or no gift at all. The Universe will resonate with continued and
repeat abundance to one having a thankful heart and gracious behavior.
A
sense of entitlement, or conceit will eventually erode away our bounty
and gratitude until we are left with scarce resources and a poor
attitude. I call it snobbery. That attitude that
declares "I have this abundance solely based on my hard work,
diligence and education, and therefore I am entitled to it!" It is true these things helped
bring to pass the desired accomplishments, but it lacks gratitude and
appreciation and reeks of selfishness and ignorance. Such snobbery
cannot hide its ugly face. The true and sincere feelings and
attitudes will eventually reveal themselves, and if not bridled, will
destroy the products of our abundance and the Universes desire to bring
it to us.
Abundance
is not limited to material wealth, but, material wealth is usually what
most people think of when they are studying and pursuing abundance.
A person with a high degree of skill, and with high academic achievement
can still be poor in ethics. A body builder can have a weak
spirit. An athlete can have a deadly disease. A rich person
can be poor. A smart person can do stupid things. A
marriage can be loveless. Abundance is usually the thing we pursue,
which we lack in our lives in a degree of plenty. If we are to attain this abundance, we
must clearly define what it means to us. We must be able to
recognize it when it comes, or we will continue without it.
