OR
-
Main Entry: in·ten·tion
1: a determination to act in a certain way : resolve
2: import or significance
When
you have your intention clear, it means you
have established your aim,
you recognize the significance of
your target, and your focus and
resolve turns into action.
If
you were using a gun and planning to fire it, the main definition of
"intent" would then be the aiming of the gun at the target,
firing, and expecting or knowing the bullet would exit the gun in the
direction of your aim, and penetrate the target - hopefully. Your
intention therefore, is your belief, knowledge of, and the significance
of, and act of using the gun with a specific resolve: to hit your
target. A person who practices intent over and over will improve
their aim. They will improve their ability to identify the target.
If
your intention was unclear, meaning perhaps you did not aim, or did not
pay attention to the significant damage a gun can cause, or, maybe you
are completely inexperienced or ignorant of safe firearm practices, you would
probably miss your target, and hit something else 'unintentionally' even
though the act of pulling the trigger was intentional. For example;
Perhaps your intent was to receive a raise, but instead created a belief
that it is unjust to not give you a raise, might result in losing your
job. You should practice this conversation, and improve your aim,
and maybe get feedback from a friend before approaching the boss.
When
you have your intention clear, it means you have established your aim,
you recognize the significance of your target, and your focus and
resolve turns into the action of firing the gun with the expectation of
hitting the target. Intent
is deliberate and clearly formulated and planned and is not
accidental. Careful thought about what you want, meditation,
prayer and visualization can help your practice in your mind of hitting
your target. During prayer, meditation and visualization, you can
more clearly identify your target and steady your aim. Doubt,
fear, anxiety are all emotions that can cause you to not aim, not be
deliberate and to not be careful or confident. Be positive and
abundant in your thinking, and this will cause doubt, fear and anxiety
to flee. Replacing these negative thoughts with your resolve, meaning
your determination to get what you want.
Visualize
your target, visualize hitting it dead center - bull's-eye!
When you visualize this picture (meaning success) you will feel
pleasure, excitement and confident. The physiological symptoms of
doubt, fear and anxiety, are identical pleasure, excitement and
confidence: shallow breathing, increased heart rate, increased
alertness. Begin with a slow, steady breath, listening to your
breathing, imagine focusing on your target, and imagine hitting the bull's-eye,
and practice again, and again in your mind. A little hint:
pleasure, excitement and confidence are all things you can control and
experience before, during and after success. With most people,
doubt, fear and anxiety will stop them from trying at all. Much
like pleasure, excitement and confidence, fear doubt and anxiety can be
experienced before, during and after success or failure, but rarely can
fear, doubt and anxiety be controlled. Don't control these
emotions, replace them with pleasure, excitement and confidence.

As
mentioned in Abundance, if I said to you, "Please bring me the
hammer.", would you look for it in the refrigerator? Would you
sit down and simply will it into existence though positive affirmation?
No, of course not, you would look for it among other tools, where they
are stored and would retrieve it for me. If you did not know what
a hammer was or what it looked like, or what it was used for, it is
doubtful that you would bring me what I need. So, your intent is to
retrieve the hammer for me. I would think you were being silly if
you looked in the refrigerator for it, but, if you did not know what a
hammer was, simply because I assumed you did, I should not be surprised
if you simply brought me a soda-pop instead. Your resolve was
true, but your "Aim" (your understanding) was
misdirected, and so you missed the target.
"When your intention is clear, the mechanics will
follow" - Hans Berger, Impact Training
I
remember a valuable exercise taught to me as a trainee in "Impact
Training" (a self help seminar). The facilitator
instructed us 73 trainees to all get up against each other, as tightly
as we could in this narrow room until all of us were packed against one
wall. He then walked to the other end of the room, and gave us the
instruction that we were to one by one, to cross the room, but that each
trainee had to do it differently than anyone else. One by one we
each began crossing the room, one walked, another ran, another skipped,
another hopped, but all reached the other side of the room, and did so
as instructed. The lesson? Our resolve to cross the room,
differently than each other manifested itself because the target was
clear, the instructions were precise and our collective resolve was
firm, this means our intention to 'cross the room differently than each
other' was clear. So also must you be clear with your
intent. The facilitator re-emphasized the substance of the lesson:
"When your intention is clear, the mechanics will
follow."
Some
things like getting money, getting a job, getting a lover, etc. might
seem at first to be difficult to imagine "how" you will get
what you want. But as you clearly define your target (what you
want) and make firm your resolve to hit your target, the means of how
they are achieved, will magically fill in through various creative ways,
and it is not necessary to focus on the "how" - because this
is the most natural part of the process. If your intent is to get
a job, then having a clear intent means defining which job, and applying
for it and demonstrating through your resolve, that you really want
it. All of the other matters, such as a resume, the kind of
clothes you will wear, and how you will get the interview are all
natural mechanical means that will naturally fill in because your
intention is clear, your resolve and aim are steady, you need not worry
about how gun powder or the gun works, just take careful, deliberate aim
on your target, and fire!
